History Of Belvoir

Belvoir Mansion 1857

In 1840, the main house on the Estate was built by Gideon Tiffany. It was referred to by the locals as “Tiffany’s Castle”.

In 1857 Gideon’s son, Dean Tiffany, commissioned architect Thomas Stent the notable designer and builder of the East Wing of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa to redesign and rebuild this grand and historic home.

Equine programs

“Horses do not see us as our collective stories but simply as we are standing in front of them. The horse brings its uncanny ability to peel our egos back, The horse also shows us the joy that comes from living with the bare truth of ourselves. What a gift that is.”

Meet our Horses

The horse is the central figure for all human development work at Belvoir. Twelve hundred pounds of power and beauty in motion, the horse is over ten times the size of an average human being. And yet, there is a strong emotional and curative bond between us.
